Words From Those We Serve

Serenity

Serenity had been blind for three years and had lived on the streets for seven. When she gave birth to her son, Claude, she had nowhere to go — no home to keep him safe, no warmth to hold him close. CPS was ready to place him into protective custody simply because Serenity was homeless, not because she was unfit to love her child.

But thanks to Birthline, and those that support and serve Birthline, Serenity and Claude had a place to belong. We welcomed them into our maternity home immediately after delivery, offering safety, stability, and a community that cared deeply for them. Within just two weeks, CPS closed the case, and Serenity and her baby were able to stay together — thriving, loved, and surrounded by hope.

Marie

The circumstances surrounding Marie’s pregnancy changed abruptly during a very vulnerable time—her first and only baby. Her daughter had been conceived in the hope of a stable and healthy upbringing, with two parents united in Christ. Marie had been living with the child’s father and believed she had the support of both families. It was deeply shocking when, during her first trimester, he revealed himself to be abusive. Even more heartbreaking was when both families denied the abuse and chose to distance themselves from Marie and their granddaughter in order to maintain appearances.

After weeks of threats and harassment, Marie fled two states in search of safety for herself and her little girl. During that time, she prayed constantly for God to guide them. Through what she believes was a direct answer to prayer, she was connected with Birthline and took a tremendous step of faith by moving into the maternity home. While she had been living in panic, searching for safety and growing accustomed to fear and distrust, God had been preparing a warm and stable place for them—a home filled with support and encouragement. There, she was provided not only with a room, a place to rest, and resources to find the help she desperately needed, but also a family rooted in the unconditional love of Jesus, willing to listen and walk alongside them in their journey.

Today, Marie and her daughter are deeply thankful for God’s provision through the ministry of Birthline. Their time there has changed their trajectory and set them on a path toward healing and stability.
